Welcome to my big, talky post, where I talk... a lot... about the story I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang, See No Evil. To those visiting from the non-spoily promo post at the Big Bang comm: hello! To my f-list and other visitors: 'sup?

For those who haven't read the story and are thinking about it, but don't want to know major plot twists and revelations... it's probably not a good idea to click on the cut, because it gives away a lot. For those brave souls willing to risk it, or those who already know, click away...

Story Spoilers and Cat Macros Under the Cut )

If there's any more questions, comments, concerns, fan fictional dogma, more cat macros, or anything really, please feel free to use the comments section. Free-for-all I say, free-for-all!

I was looking at the calendar this morning, and realized a little sheepishly that this Thursday was the day I had signed up to participate in [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang's September promotion. Like usual, I completely lost track of time and therefore haven't given it too much thought (whoops). So, in the great tradition of [livejournal.com profile] greyias procrastination... I turn to my f-list and those random passerbys for help.

I could probably talk about the story and the universe it takes place in at great length, but I thought it might be nice to address any questions, concerns, or curiosities that people had (if there are any.)

For those who have read my epic monster (known in some circles as See No Evil), are there any burning questions you've been wanting to ask? Or possibly things you're mildly curious about -- be something within the story itself, questions on the writing process, why the heck I did X/Y/Z, where does everyone go from here, did I make my beta cry, or even how many meltdowns and writerly rants I forced my poor support group to endure? I'm pretty much game for anything.

Also, if anyone hasn't read it but has a question, feel free to ask as well. The more the merrier!

Eeeeeeee! *incoherent flailing/squee* (I almost typed "squailing", wow)

Thanks to all the hardworking mods, this year's [info]sgabigbang is live! The site has a bunch of new skins, which are just lovely (I believe my favorite is Inkblot).

Title: See No Evil
Author: [info]greyias
Word Count: ~89,000
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Gen, Friendship, Angst
Summary: In a world without the SGC, John Sheppard never got his second chance and is ushered into early retirement. Nine months later he's working as a test pilot for the world's leading defense contractor on a groundbreaking new plane, and has just been introduced to his difficult new coworker, one Dr. Rodney McKay. However, not everything is as it appears to be. There's something very strange about this plane, John's employer--and Rodney McKay.

*flail/squee/squail* There's ART! The lovely [info]mapsandlegends chose my story, and oh my god. It is absolutely beyond gorgeous! The level of detail is just mindblowing! I keep looking at it and seeing something else. Without spoiling anything, all I can say is that it's a perfect companion to the story. Seriously, I'm speechless (well, almost speechless, other than "squailing").

Feedback:
Feed the authors! Feed the artists! A special comm has been set up for this event,[info]sgabigbangfb, with a post for each participant and fic/piece of art. A lot of work has gone into this event from every camp, so if you enjoy it, let us know!

My feedback post is located here.
[personal profile] mapsandlegends' post is here.

I've already begun the Kindle conversion process on several stories... With over two million words of new SGA fic, I think I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

Somehow...

...it totally happened.

The rough draft is El Finito, and hey, I don't completely hate the story anymore and want it to die a fiery death, so things are looking up.

The Final (probably to change during massive edits) Word Count:

81,323 / 40,000
(203.3%)

Um, yeahhhh... that's not a typo. Now I know I said I was totally going to wrap this up without approaching the 70,000 mark, but apparently some people had a lot to say, and in general don't shut up no matter how much I wish for them to so I can finish and get some sleep and I'm totally not bitter in my run on sentences.

I would like to thank the Academy...

Actually, in all seriousness, I owe a huge, huge thanks to a lot of people for their support during this, but I want to give a special shout out to three people in particular: [profile] twit1217, [personal profile] leesa_perrie, and [personal profile] kristen999. Without their constant support, research help, "Get some sleep, Grey", cheering, write-offs, "DON'T YOU DARE GIVE UP ON ME", cat macros, and emergency plot session cell phone calls, I'm pretty sure I would have given into despair and quit months ago. Thank you guys, seriously, thank you.

Now... now I can sleep.

You may have noticed a certain... lack of posting from me as of late. Well, there's a reason for that.

The good news: I finally have my hotel stuff ironed out for Comic Con! Woohoo! Anyone on my f-list heading to sunny San Diego at the end of the month?

I'm going to have to cut stuff out at this rate! Why did I wait so long to start? (Cue "Arm Flailing of Panic").

I think I'll go to bed now before my brain melts out of my ears from overwork.
greyias: (Ronon squint)
It's a Tuesday morning, and it appears I need a carafe of coffee for my desk. As I do not have a sleepy/tired/coffee/caffeine icon, we will go with what I am right now dubbing "Ronon doesn't do mornings" icon.

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull? Awesome! It almost makes me want to track down those old Indiana Jones adventure games and play them. (I kind of want to find the old Star Trek adventure games too. One of our local stations has been playing classic Trek, and I'm finding myself enjoying it immensely.)

greyias: (otterly horrific)
(Random otter icon because I have no coffee icon as of yet. Yet.)

Yesterday I apparently woke up in a different time zone (somwhere in Australia I think), because I had random, epiphany-like moments where I suddenly cried out, "Wait! Today is Tuesday! Not Wednesday!" The tradition has continued into today, because I've already had to tell myself once that it's not Thursday. On the bright side, waking up a day ahead of the rest of the world has done marvelous things with my hair this morning, so I guess it's an even trade.

Because I think I like stressing myself out, I went ahead and signed up for the [profile] gateverse_remix. It sounds like such a fun exercise, I couldn't resist. I sort of feel sorry for the person who gets assigned to me, especially if they have no idea who I am and the first link they click on is either "A Fowl Encounter" or "Otters, Otters Everywhere!"

On a final note, I just frightened myself by looking at housing prices and mortgage rates. If you'll excuse me, I need to go breathe into a paper bag now.
