You may have noticed a certain... lack of posting from me as of late. Well, there's a reason for that.

As you can see, just a tiny reason.

I absolutely refuse to try and guess the ending word count (okay... hopefully under 70K... dang it, how does it keep growing?) The good news is I'm finally at the point where I do see a light at the end of the tunnel. Almost all the ducks are in a row, and it's just about time to start knocking them down for a hopefully big finale. Heck, it could even have a (tentative) title, meaning I might avoid that lengthy, soul draining angst fest at the end of the project.

This does assume I reach the end of the project and don't fall prey to the stress/angst trying to consume me in my professional life (which is my other reason for being quiet. I don't like to unload about those kinds of things).

The good news: I finally have my hotel stuff ironed out for Comic Con! Woohoo! Anyone on my f-list heading to sunny San Diego at the end of the month?

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. 70 K, I'm incredibly impressed! (And if you need help with, I dunno, anything, just holler) :).

PS1: Back to work. 45 minutes and then I'm out of here.

PS2: Semi-premiere tomorrow!! *g*

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure that light in the tunnel doesn't belong to a train, but ask me in a few days to see if my answer changes.

And if you need help with, I dunno, anything, just holler

Be careful what you offer... I might just take you up on it *g*

Semi-premiere tomorrow!! *g*

Hee! I had a vision of tomorrow night, my parents announcing that "Yay! Stargate Atlantis is on!" and me blandly stating "I've already seen it, back to writing." Actually, they just shook their head at me last weekend when my brother was talking about the new season starting up, and I couldn't help but grin a little.

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* You guys and your Bigbang, you make me feel so unaccomplished. I think I'll draw something...

Oooooon another note. Grey, pls go over to your livelongnmarry post to tell me kindly that you're not selling your writer's soul for a mere fifty bucks so I can ... reply. ;)

On another another note, I'm sans internet at home at the moment (MS Security upgrade clashed with ZoneAlarm) and not sure when I will have it fixed. Might be an hour's work, might take me a few days (no internet this morning. I almost had a heart attack), but if I don't reply/bid right away, don't worry. :)

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
you make me feel so unaccomplished

I think I may have gotten 400 words of writing done in the past two or three days... so don't feel too bad. However if it gets more drawings... well, I can't complain XD

Oooooon another note. Grey, pls go over to your livelongnmarry post to tell me kindly that you're not selling your writer's soul for a mere fifty bucks so I can ... reply.

Are we allowed to do such a thing? :O A little bidding collusion?

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
if it gets more drawings...

I've been wanting to ask, how does that work? Do you already know who is going to make art for your story? Or did you sign up as a team?

Are we allowed to do such a thing

Of course we are. More money for Sulu. *g* Eh, I'll just outbid myself and vote no and paypal my pesos across the Atlantic and all should be yin and yang.

(Soooo, about the prompt. No kinky twist for Thicker Than Water? :P)

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
For Big Bang, I think the artist and/or vidder gets assigned after you turn in your rough draft, and the story/art reveals happens on the day the site opens.

Eh, I'll just outbid myself and vote no and paypal my pesos across the Atlantic and all should be yin and yang.

Ooh, I might outbid myself on Astrid's then. At some point I decided that I wanted to go up to $125.

(Soooo, about the prompt. No kinky twist for Thicker Than Water? :P)

...Shepcest... *cries*

Actually for the prompt, the sky is the limit. I mean, I did offer to write slash...

It's ok, it's ok. *pets you* I won't prompt you to write chapter 4 "in which our two newly discovered brothers move in together". I'll picture it in my mind. ;)

It's 07.00 pm, I can't put it off any longer. I have to go home and face my internetless computer. *feels brave*

Eeks.

Haha... someone actually wrote a fic like that. And despite incest fic being one of my squicks... I did read it. Because I like to torture myself. (Actually it was very well written... but there were parts where I had to cover my eyes.)

It's 07.00 pm, I can't put it off any longer. I have to go home and face my internetless computer. *feels brave*

You poor, poor thing. I'll be crossing my fingers that the problem resolves itself easily. Or you can try the method my Dad uses whenever the internet goes out... call the ISP every ten to fifteen minutes until they send someone out to shut him up XD

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Did I say I was computer savvy? I'm a lying lier. I've installed Firefox, but the "try it for a week, before giving up on it" in the tutorial should have been a sure sign. Why is the lettertype thin and wobbly in Firefox, and not nice and fat and firm like in IE? My mocca chocolate LJ looks ugly. :(

Haha... someone actually wrote a fic like that.

Oh noes, in SGA?? Lol. How AU do you have to get to make that work? (I will be prudishly honest: I've never read an incest fic. I stuck my head into SPN fandom once, saw all the Wincest and jerked it back again. Of course now you're making me curious. Darn. *g*)

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I had no idea the displays were different until you mentioned it. I've been using FF wayyyy too long methinks. Different strokes :)

Oh noes, in SGA?? Lol. How AU do you have to get to make that work?

Pretty... AU. Although it's somewhat tied back to canon at the end, it still... I don't know. It sort of reminded me of the end of the film, Lonestar, playing on the thoughts of the two characters at the end: "We're not going to have kids, so what does it hurt?" And that's where my brain breaks, because try as I might, I can't follow that logic.

Of course, I have two siblings. Even the thought of them as sexual beings makes me stick my fingers in my ears and start singing "La la la la la la!" I mean, I know they are and don't expect them not to be just so I can sleep at night, but it's a type of blissful ignorance. I've already prepared my answer if my little sister ever tries to come to me for sex advice: "Ask your mother." *g*

Of course now you're making me curious. Darn. *g

Sorry, I have that effect on people. Heh. I'll have to look for the link when I get back to my own computer, that is, if you're really that curious ;)

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my! Don't tell me it's Last Will and Testament by Speranza! I was opening some links in sgagenrefinders (http://community.livejournal.com/sgagenrefinders/225942.html) and the first flippin' one had incest! What are the odds! LOL. Ok. By Speranza*, I can totally see why you read that if that's the one. *continues*

*

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
LMAO, yeah, that's the one! What can I say? It was a good read, even if I was going "No, no, no, nooooo!" during the sex scenes... but being drawn into the story and all... I just couldn't skim them over.

I still haven't read 'Written by the Victors". Should I even be in this fandom?

If that's true, we'll have to leave in exile together. Of course, you'll probably leave me stranded on the road somewhere after we have a huge fight when you learn that I have yet to read "Freedom is Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose".

<-- FAILS at fandom.

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Freedom is Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose". Oh. My. God. That one kept me up that night. Literally kept me AWAKE. Very powerful read, incredibly sad, but beautiful. I haven't read the sequel yet, because I'm a wooz and I need my sleep.

even if I was going "No, no, no, nooooo!" during the sex scenes...

Wait, (I haven't read the whole thing yet) they keep having sex after they ... find out?? Nooo.

(ETA: because I pressed the wrong button :))

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been putting off reading it "Freedom..." because I know it's sad, and that the dynamic duo is cut in half, but from everything I've read it sounds like something I have to read at some point because of it's inherent awesomeness. I think I might load it on my Kindle so I can read it in my room. I've got the feeling it's one of those that will likely make me cry.

Wait, (I haven't read the whole thing yet) they keep having sex after they ... find out?? Nooo.

*squirms* Um... how far you into it now?

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got the feeling it's one of those that will likely make me cry.

It will. You're gonna cry your eyes out. He's so .. alone, and he tries so hard to keep it together. [livejournal.com profile] lim made a wonderful vid: This is How It Works (http://www.imeem.com/sublim/video/Tk2siKdd/this_is_how_it_works/) to go with the fic, but (in my humble opinion) Dreams (http://newkidfan.livejournal.com/143859.html) by [livejournal.com profile] newkidfan goes even better with it.

*squirms* Um... how far you into it now?

Well, right now I'm at work, illegally e-mailing with you, so not very far. *g*

I'll read the rest tonight. If it gets too smutty I'll avert my eyes. :D

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, I think I'm just going to have to assign a night to read it. I mean, it can't have like 200+ saves on del.icio.us for no reason ;)

Ooh, [livejournal.com profile] newkidfan did a vid to it? I'll have to check that one out, and [livejournal.com profile] lim's as well (after reading of course, so there's context).

I'll read the rest tonight. If it gets too smutty I'll avert my eyes. :D

Pfft, seeing as how it's like, days later, did you ever finish? XD

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Newkidfan's vid wasn't made for "Freedom..." but it fits the story perfectly! It's only two minutes long, but it's so beautiful and wistful and, and ... well, Read and watch, you'll see what I mean *hands you a box of tissues thru the internetz*

Still haven't finished the incest smut. And I printed "Victors" five months ago *upturns stacks of papers looking for it* and I was surprised at how short it is. I thought it was epic novel size, but it's shorter than your Big Bang I think. :D

[identity profile] jadesfire2808.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yay, that's fantastic! I had a bit of a happy dance at the comm last night, and I'm now officially done with Part Two and onto Part Three. I have a suspicion that my word count might fall a bit short, but padding, I can do :)

Good luck! And yay for a title too. It's always such a pain, that bit...

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, at this rate you're going to beat me to the finish line *g* I saw your happy dance, and have meant to give you some pom-pom action... but my brain was absolute mush, I only got about 224 words done last night. You're doing fantastic, though! It's actually really heartening for me to see other people finishing/getting close to finishing.

I do plan on sleeping for a week though while my betas hopefully tear the rough draft to itty bitty shreds. Oh, and I guess writing that remix story at some point in time.

I have a suspicion that my word count might fall a bit short, but padding, I can do :)

From the other end, I'm thinking that might be the more fun/less frustrating way to doing it. Next big project I do... I'm going to think much smaller and cut their introspection to the quick. I have a feeling a lot is going to get edited down/out before the final draft is posted.

Hey, why don't you aim for 80K and 200%?! *bg*

Okay, okay, you can stop hitting me now, I was only joking!!

Ow!

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
See that stick John's carrying? *g* You're worse than Gayle! When I broke Google Docs the first time with the story length and had to split it into two parts (we're up to three now), she was all "Oh! You should make it go to eight parts!"

The good news is come Monday, it's over one way or another! I mean I hope I'll be done, but sleep is looking so very very tempting right now...

[identity profile] twit1217.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I'm not the only one with that thought :~)

But I took it back when you started crying for fear you'd drown the muse. Because that would be very, very, very bad.

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor little overworked muse. I think it's going to unionize if I'm not careful. (I haven't even told you about the crazy Advent Calendar thing [livejournal.com profile] leesa_perrie and I decided to do this Christmas). I do fear revolt soon. That's all right, it gets the month of August off.

[identity profile] twit1217.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Another undertaking? Hopefully, having a month off will be enough rejuvenating time for your muse. I have my doubts. You'll want to keep the muse sharp so there will NEED to be a drabble or two. You know there will. You so do.

Oooooh, an otter. Hope Major Lorne's igloo is still operational :D

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I decided to hold off on posting about the other undertaking until I finish the first giganto obligation ;) If I'm not completely and utterly brain dead, we'll see.

You'll want to keep the muse sharp so there will NEED to be a drabble or two. You know there will. You so do.

Oh, definitely! Still need to finish those two introspective little side pieces (I think you've seen at least one, the Miller's Crossing tag). Fairly sure something in Season Five will spark the old muse, and I'll be off again before you know it.

Oooooh, an otter. Hope Major Lorne's igloo is still operational :D

Sadly, I think he may have been neglecting his igloo maintenance due to his role in certain stories that need not be named. Once he's all done there, we'll have to make sure he refortifies the perimeter!

bahahaha. 40,000 words sounds so POSSIBLE! Why don't they mention that the story doesn't tend to stop there? *g*

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Because they're evil, and they like to snicker to themselves that the Big Bang actually refers what happens to your brain sometime around the end of June/beginning of July.

Previous to this monster, my longest story was just a little shy of 40K, so I figured that would be the most difficult part. I think this is probably the first thing I've written where I've wanted it to be torn to itty bitty pieces on the sole purpose that I've developed a little bit of a grudge. I want my brain back!

*snicker* That's pretty much how I feel about mine right now. I just never, ever want to see it or think about it again, and I resent it deeply for keeping me from doing actual fun things for the last couple of weeks!

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I have tow days off in a row..IN A ROW and I told my husband I'd like to go out for a short while on Friday then wondered...do I have time?

FLAILS

What we do for fandom.

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank god. I'm not the only one! I mean, I know I'm supposed to love it like a child, but right now it feels like the rebellious teenager who is testing not only my patience but my will to not commit murder.

Oh, fandom, it's a good thing I love you so.

(On a random note, I really should get a Big Bang icon)

I was up until 4am last night, sent section 6 to beta and woke up thinking how I should have changed the last scene!

I need help!

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The bright side! Come Monday, it's over and you won't have to think about it any more (well, other than edits). And yay! Section six is done! You're down to the last bit!

I need help!

Maybe just a little sleep ;) We've been going since... what? February on this? March?
