Well, my jailbreaking efforts for my iPhone last night were (eventually) successful, thanks in part to some very helpful tutorials. Jailbreaking software, for those who don't have a g33k dictionary handy, is the process that allows people who own iPhones and iPod Touches to run unofficial code to bypass Apple's sometimes paranoid, sometimes not strangehold on its operating system. In other words, I hacked my phone. And yey, it was good.

However, since this was my actual cell phone that I use for a lot of daily tasks, it was slow going because I needed to be sure I would still function, and so I didn't finish until well past midnight. However, true to my word, this morning I took pictures of what had my squeeing and flailing last night in the early hours of the morning.

My g33kery, it bleeds through even the cut. )

On tonight's very special episode of: Why [personal profile] greyias Isn't Allowed Near Tech: "Jailbreaking the iPhone".

Expect many ETAs filled with either pictures, hilarity, or tears to follow.

You would think that if I was this bored, I would write. Brain, why doth thee torture me so?

Okay guys, it's been far too long since I've made a geekgasm post, in which I lay out a digital smorgasborg of shinies, we all drool over their gigahertz, and then cry into our lonely, empty wallets. It's such fun, join me!

Shiny! )

Our next g33kout session will be dedicated to Star Trek. Don't miss it, I'm bringing waffles! No, really. I am.

Uh-oh...

Windows XP installation appears to be ready to work on the Mini... *crosses fingers* Wish me luck!

ETA: Partitioning...ning... successful! Next phase!

ETA2: Uh... crap. Something tells me "SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED" is a bad message. ABORT/RETRY/IGNORE? A-A-A-A-A-A.

ETA3: Oh, I have GUI again! Phew!

ETA4: And now I have a desktop. Things are looking up... now just have to see if I can get audio and wireless working...

ETA5: And now I have wireless internet, and a computer that boots up when I tell it to, and Firefox, and will soon have Open Office, and--er, still no sound. Working on that... ETA6: even sound. How did that happen? *scratches head* It is now a usable computer! \o/ Fully functioning even!

The day started bright, as I woke up to a pleasant morning drive, ...and really it's only about it being a Monday ) but I'm starting to look around the office suspiciously, waiting for the other shoe to come flying out of nowhere and smack me upside the head.

But on the bright side, I don't work in the City of Houston IT Department. Computer virus rampaging through the dockets? I think someone's head is going to roll.

Look's like my lunch hour is up. Cross your fingers, I'm going back in.

Uh oh...

I found the Popular Mechanics Website. This could be bad.

So. Cool. )

Okay, I have to get back to work now. Popular Mechanics bad.

There is absolutely nothing fannish under these cuts. But there are macros, comics, and general babbling.

Mondays and mornings )

State of the move... )
