It's a Monday...
There is absolutely nothing fannish under these cuts. But there are macros, comics, and general babbling.

So I realized this morning that in fact I haven't made a non-private post in about ten days. Heh, whoops. What can I say? Things imploded on me last week, and it's taken me a little while to regain my mental equilibrium. To sum it up in short: remember when I mentioned I was going to make huge, sweeping, life-changing decisions? Well, those completely and totally fell through last Sunday, complete with obligatory emotional nuclear meltdowns. So, it's a new week, and I've finally convinced myself that I won't run away to Australia, Alaska, Africa, or any other place that begins with "A" for the time being -- but I reserve the right to change my mind at any point in the future.
Also, I finally broke about two weeks ago and bought myself a shiny new, ultraportable laptop. It turns out... I really don't like the Linux installation it came with (SUSE Enterprise 10). So I've been researching putting Ubuntu on it. I have yet to attempt tovoid my warranty try out this endeavor, but I have the sinking feeling it's going to turn out like this:

There is already a betting pool going around in my family to see how long it takes me to break and install Windows on it. However, I shall persevere! (Unless I can't figure out how to turn off the stupid SCIM hotkey that I keep activating [I don't need the ability to type in Mandarin, TYVM.]) I was hoping to have everything ironed out so I could use it at our International Seminar this week, because my Treo has all but self-destructed on me. Sadly, that's not the case. So I might bite the bullet and get the stupid, overpriced, overhyped iPhone with its stupid lack of a functional,
greyias-approved keyboard like the G1 soon to be offered by my hated cell company nemesis T-Mobile. Unlocked ftw?. After all, I won't be paying rent in the near future, so I might as well spend my money on something. /bitter
Saw last week's SGA after wrangling with the internet all of Friday night, but I don't think I can sum up my feelings on it any better than
tipper_green did here. It was a fun romp, some nice snark, I liked the dark edge, but had a few caveats. Next week, though... WOOLSEY! :D \o/ I'm sad, I know.
And... yeah, not much else happening. Right now I'm basically living vicariously through
kymbie's African adventures. It's much more fun than thinking about other things.

Gah, those new mini-laptops, SO SHINY *_* Are the keyboards hard to use, or...?

might want to avoid Antarctica, though, top secret alien bases notwithstanding...
Yeah, good plan. I considered Antarctica for a few minutes, but realized that other than the occasional Morgan Freeman voice over, the penguins and I wouldn't have much to talk about. Although the top secret alien bases would be cool. I've got a feeling they'd deny me access though. The jerks.
Are the keyboards hard to use, or...?
The HP Mini has the largest keyboard on the market (about 92%), and while there was a period of adjustment (about an hour for me), I finally got the hang of it. I actually wrote about 600 words on a new fic while in bed -- which is something I really can't do well with my big behemoth laptop. My main problem is that stupid SCIM hotkey (CTRL + spacebar) that I keep activating somehow (and have had real difficulty disabling). It's very disconcerting to be typing coherent English one second, and then suddenly be writing incoherent Mandarin the next.

Hope you feel better soon.
I can't help you with Linux so I'll distract you from my ignorance with my newest icon of Sheppard as a flower fairy. Isn't he adorable?

but it's only temporary I'm sure. *hugs*
Well, it's kind of permanent in so far as the plans that I had made I can't remake them until next October at the earliest. (It was a snafu on the apartment/townhouse lease we signed. So, sadly, that part can't be fixed.) The whole "light at the end of the tunnel" aspect, yeah, that's definitely going to be temporary. *crosses fingers*
I almost started crying when they put them on my desk. If I could reach across the ocean I'd give you half for all the moral support in the cheese girl costume department
Aww, what good coworkers! Did they have to smuggle them into Europe for you? Or was customs kind enough to let them pass? :D And no, no need to share. That cheese girl costume... *shudder*

Well shoot. And now you have to wait a whole year?! That's terrible! :(
Don't move to Alaska. It's really cold and the time difference sucks. And don't go to Hawaii! I'm still stunned part of my family moved there. It's about as far as you can go without reappearing on the other side.
Did they have to smuggle them into Europe for you?
Heck no. EC Customs is not as paranoid as US Customs who confiscates twenty five plastic ball pens for fear the continent is poisoned with one whole ounce of blue ink. Cookies are perfectly legal. *g*
Might I enquire where you found it?
Sheppard fairy is really the Alder Flower Fairy. I know I know, it's a sure sign of losing it when even Flower Fairies start to look like John Sheppard, but look at him! Look at his little pointy EARS! I couldn't resist. *pats his little head*

Sheppard fairy is so cute! (And really, does resemble John to a freakish amount)

But Alaska has whales! And Jack London lived there! And it has trees! And... and... yeah, I'm totally not suited for Alaskan living, from the snow alone. I was mentally scarred my first year of college after driving home through an ice storm. I'd probably go catatonic at the thought of having to drive on icy roads seven months out of the year.

Well, according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bic_pen), a BiC pen can be modified into a skewer gun, which has accuracy up to 75 m. You could take an airline pilot's eye out with that, and then he can't fly or land the plane. Now how is that kind of thinking paranoid? Please tell me.
Cookies are perfectly legal. *g*
Well that's good! Unlike your lethal, lead ink/skewer shooting pens. *tsks*

Shiny computer! Looked at a couple of similar types on Sat when we went to a shop for something else (very boring, a scart box for multiple scarts into a one-scart TV). Niiiceee, but atm not really necessary as I'm hardly ever not at home!!
As for Outsiders...am I shallow? Sure, there was at least one dark bit, but I was too busy squeeing over the geeks rescuing themselves (did you see Carson running through a hive ship stunning Wraith? I was shouting, "Go, Carson, go"...) to notice the dark bit too much!!
But then, having written a story where Carson and Rodney are on a Wraith ship and manage to take control of it, this was making me think "about time"!! Of course, TPTB went one better 'cos I had the Daedalus bail them out at the end, whereas in Outsiders they didn't need any help at all!! SQUEE!!!
Um, yeah, did I mention shallow?! *bg*

And you're not shallow! It was a fairly squee worthy episode, and made me laugh out loud several times (and I kind of liked the dark bit... but that's me. Most of my complaints were of the plot hole variety... and maybe Carson's sudden proficiency with a stunner.)
And the computer is very shiny. (Really, it's got an aluminum shell!) But no, not really a necessary household item. I'm sure it'll be my new best friend once it stops making me type in Mandarin.

Good luck with the computer, there have been occasional times I've been tempted by Linux...and then I come to my senses. (Computers dislike me enough, try something I'm not fully comfortable with, and they'll smell my fear and develop even STRANGER problems, I just know it! ^_-)
But new laptop...oh, so jealous...mmmmm, shiny new tech for the win!
*more comfort huggles, wish there was more I could do*
...oh, also, that polar bear macro sums up Mondays better than pretty much anything I've seen! *sneerk*

Ahaha! SO TRUE! I swear, this one already smells my "Linux n00b" fear, and its starting on trying to break me with that stupid SCIM hotkey.
*more comfort huggles, wish there was more I could do*
Aww, thank you! Sadly, it's just one of those things that happens, as disheartening as it is. But comfort hugs do help a lot!
that polar bear macro sums up Mondays better than pretty much anything I've seen!
It is truly one of those pictures that is worth a thousand words. It's definitely my feeling on this week in general.

Also I've heard Ubuntu kicks ass. (just fyi) <33

SWEET! Now all I have to do is... remember to get my backup install disc from HP and let the
the OS apocalypseexperimenting begin. Ooh! We should make it a lakehouse activity, Ubuntu installs + alcohol. Let the crazy computing shenanigans begin!no subject
Jay wants the tiny notebook like whoa. I showed him and this happens to be the same day UNT sends him a mysterious check. wtf XD
