A Tale of Betrayal and Woe

Well, I made a mistake last night when I was packing for my trip today. As a veteran traveler, I really should have known better. But I'm human, and we are prone to errors in judgement. My error?

I touched my suitcase.

This is what it got me:

ExpandWARNING: HEARTWRENCHING IMAGERY AND TALES OF WOE WITHIN )

Despite the canine opposition, I'm (almost) packed, and will be getting on an airplane this evening to join everyone else at Writercon for the weekend. I anticipate much fun will be had by all. For anyone who's attending, there will be a H/C panel on Saturday hosted by [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper, [livejournal.com profile] sgatazmy, and yours truly, so come check us out if it sounds like your thing.

On a brighter note...

Before I get myself in trouble with snarking, a meme that I saw over on [livejournal.com profile] maxiekatt2's journal the other week that looked too fun not to try.

See how long we can carry on a thread using nothing but our icons as communication. The more cracked out, the better. To leave a blank comment, merely reply with nothing but < in the comment field.

So... do I have any takers?

Creating an Ancient PDA from my iPhone

Well, my jailbreaking efforts for my iPhone last night were (eventually) successful, thanks in part to some very helpful tutorials. Jailbreaking software, for those who don't have a g33k dictionary handy, is the process that allows people who own iPhones and iPod Touches to run unofficial code to bypass Apple's sometimes paranoid, sometimes not strangehold on its operating system. In other words, I hacked my phone. And yey, it was good.

However, since this was my actual cell phone that I use for a lot of daily tasks, it was slow going because I needed to be sure I would still function, and so I didn't finish until well past midnight. However, true to my word, this morning I took pictures of what had my squeeing and flailing last night in the early hours of the morning.

On tonight's very special episode of: Why [personal profile] greyias Isn't Allowed Near Tech: "Jailbreaking the iPhone".

Expect many ETAs filled with either pictures, hilarity, or tears to follow.

Fic Rec: Childhood by Pallas-Athena

Fic Rec (Terminator)

Word Count: ~36,000

Childhood by Pallas-Athena

I'll admit, I'm not a big fan of James Cameron or his movies, but for some bizarre reason I cannot tear myself away from the television if one of his movies comes on. It's one of those mysteries of life. What is not a mystery of life? My big giant crush on Michael Biehn and just about any character he's ever played, including Kyle Reese from the first Terminator movie. (It's all Chris Larabee's fault.)

ExpandSpoilers for the end of T1, but not anything anyone who has seen the previews for the new Terminator movie couldn't figure out... )

Icon is directed at myself today.

Good morning, flist!

I am chugging the coffee this morning in an attempt to appear human.

ExpandSnipped for girly and childish fears )

In non-pathetic news, it's Monday, the sun is shining, and all of that other jazz. I had a lovely weekend, and am less inclined to take up the life of a carnie. Which is good because they kind of freak me out. I've already been through my morning RSS feeds, and picked out some fun nuggets:

Would you like some SCARY with your coffee? Wireless, spywareless keylogging has arrived. Way to ruin Starbucks for the rest of us, hackers1.

1 - Okay, technically this is electronic espionage and not really hacking. But still.

Or what about some cyborg crickets?

No? Er, that's all I've got so far.

Lions, Tigers, and Fan Awards, oh my!

I want to run away to the circus. There'll be lions, tigers, and bears1! And facepainting too2! Who's with me?

1 - OH MY!

2 - I'm going to get the picture of a wolf howling at the moon on my left cheek. It'll be classy. And EPIC.

ExpandOr maybe I'll just run away to Dallas... )

The Stargate Fan Awards have opened their doors for voting! If for some reason you haven't heard, or maybe have gotten distracted with the shiny that is Torchwood: Children of Earth (and it is shiny), worry not! Voting ends July 31, so there's still plenty of time to read all the fun stories, look at the pretty pictures, and watch all the fantastic videos that have been nominated this year.

I'm personally still waffling over my voting card, because almost all of the nominations are my favorite stories. It's like... choosing a favorite child. How can I pick between my favorite pirate AUs, western AUs, cyberpunk AUs, epic cracky slave team adventures, killer plant stories, and... oh, the whole lot of them, I swear!

I might have a few in there as well.

If you have time, go check out the nominee lists. Even if you don't feel like voting, it serves as a great rec list.

Bullet Points Sue; News at 11

  • Apparently I woke up on the manic side of the bed today. I have yet to have a single cup of coffee, but I'm already feeling like jumping around the office like Daffy Duck on a sugar high. I don't know exactly what will happen after the coffee starts, but I'm not convinced it's a good thing.
  • There. Is. No. God. - Twilight wins Five MTV Movie Awards. I lose faith in humanity.
  • It was Canada Day yesterday! According to my sister-in-law, it was their "birthday". She says they got here first. I say they're trying to steal our American ubernationalistic thunder. Petty bickering ensues.
  • It's July 2nd! Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] sgatazmy!
  • Gmail has implemented some sort of drag-and-drop, and informed me of that by dragging up the two labels I use the most. The results are a teensy bit intriguing.
  • A coworker has just brought me a breakfast burrito with a very scary smile. It is either laced with something, or I'm going to have a very strange favor asked of me later.
  • I have a comic script written for a square on my [livejournal.com profile] cliche_bingo card. My brain has carefully ignored the fact that I can't draw. Implementation will be interesting. (Or highly frustrating.)
  • I abuse bullet points. They file a restraining order.
  • I ignore the restraining order.
  • Wheeee!
  • ...I'm going to be in Minneapolis in exactly four weeks... ZOMG!
  • Dude, wasn't it just March?
  • I don't care if I'm a girl, I want a Man Wall. Hot. Damn.
  • This burrito is tasty. I'm leaning toward the strange favor theory.
  • This burrito has cheese. I retract my previous statement.
  • I feel like I can take over the world.
  • In fact, I think I will.
  • The coffee has kicked in. Repent, for the end is nigh.

Fic Rec: Public Timeline

Public Timeline by [livejournal.com profile] sabinelagrande and [livejournal.com profile] arymabeth

The episode "Grace Under Pressure" retold as a Twitter public timeline. Crack, silliness, popcorn theft, and snorfling abound. I made the mistake of reading this morning before work and A) was nearly late as a result and B) woke up at least one member of the household between my snickering and laughing out loud.

Pairings: Weir/Caldwell, Lorne/Zelenka, one-sided McKay/Carter, O'Neill/Carter, Vala/Daniel, and John/Rodney

Good morn--afternoon, everyone!

For those fretting silently at home, I did eventually recover from my hangover on Saturday. Sadly, our refrigerator went to that big appliance store in the sky on Sunday, so we spent some quality family time searching for its replacement. My suspicions is that its demise is related to the heatwave we're experiencing. I've also been told that I'm blaming too many things on the heat wave, so take that as you will.

It's still way too hot for a penguin down here.

Monday morning was spent trying not to snorfle loudly and having to physically resist from commenting on this article. I mean, there's... no. Resisting... resisting... resisti--oh, let's change the subject before I get myself in trouble.

I have proudly finally finished answering the character meme from, gosh, over a week ago. Of course, I may have written mini-novels as answers, which took more time than I'm willing to admit to. But at least there were no spreadsheets this time around.

Sadly, I have run out of interesting things to talk about. Which is rather convenient, because my lunch break is over and I have to return to fighting with Sony Cinescore. There was a request for more drums in the soundtrack of the video I'm working on, but alas, there is no conveniently labeled "More Cow Bell!" button to be found. Looks like I'm going to have to read the manual. *muttergrumble*

And before I go, because it's a Monday...

party like a rock star

good afternoon flisties, how is everyone's saturday going? i am typing without caps today, as proper capitalization is a little too loud for me still. mi madre and i were rocking it out last night on rock band, into the wee hours of the morning, like any good rock star should. there is also the distinct possibility there might have been cosmopolitans being poured during all of those wee hours, hence my reluctance to use the shift key.

so posts of star trek will have to wait, comment replies will have to wait, and i swear i'm almost done with those meme answers, but they too will have to wait, until after my nap (and possibly after the world stops spinning too)

pointing and laughing is well within the boundaries of allowed, but only quiet laughing, as someone's trying to drive a spike through my skull

Because we all need a little bit of shininess in our lives...

Okay guys, it's been far too long since I've made a geekgasm post, in which I lay out a digital smorgasborg of shinies, we all drool over their gigahertz, and then cry into our lonely, empty wallets. It's such fun, join me!
