surely this book is available via other means?

It is... but those means require me actually going to the bookstore. Something, I am sad to say, I haven't done for a very long time.

I'm still kinda torn on Amazon; I suspect that I'm probably not going to end up going the full-fledged boycott route, but I definitely want to diversify my book-buying habits considerably more than I've done in the past.

That book looks seriously awesome, though! I love the PR copy. :D

Diversity is probably a good idea. I didn't realize until this whole thing how much I relied on Amazon for my reading habits, and actually most of my shopping in general. (Free two-day shipping and no sales tax will do that to you.)

I don't think I'll completely boycott Amazon, but this whole thing has also given me pause. I didn't realize until looking for the above book how much I do rely on Amazon. Which is... more than a little irksome.

If the book is anywhere nearly as amusing as that blurb.. comedy gold.

Now that they've at least acknowledged the "error", I'm not quite in full-boycott mode any more, though the total lack of actual apology still stings.

I've heard of that book because I think it has a fanfic following. I may have seen it over in the Writercon fandoms list or something. If you do get it, you should totally do a review, because I'm definitely curious.
