Multi-Purpose Post

Happy Tuesday! Monday is gone, and we're looking at a bright, (unexpectedly freezing) afternoon here in Texas. Or perhaps it's just unexpectedly freezing here in my office. I haven't had opportunity to step outside as of yet. No matter! It is Tuesday, therefore it is not Monday. (Also, Jacques Cousteau is the feature on my desk calendar, so it does not appear to be a day of crises.)

First off, I've finally managed to catch my breath long enough to upload a birthday present that the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] trystings made for me! It's cover art for my story, "By Any Other Name"! Go check it out, t'is awesomesauce!

Secondly, it's Challenge Pimping Time!

Twisting The Twilight Zone 2009 Challenge

This is a multi-fandom challenge where you write stories inspired by/based on episode (or episode titles) of the Twilight Zone. This is actually the first one I signed up for this year, and has served the purpose of kicking my butt back into gear*. It's actually rather fun -- at the very least go read through the episode title list. If you're stuck for an idea, it's remarkably inspiring.

And of course, the Challenge du Jour. I know most of you have already heard about it, but why not another little reminder?

Sign-ups for 2009's SGA Gen Ficathon are now open, until Saturday February 9th. [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon is a month-long ficathon that's run by the always lovely [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper, and is chock full of gen-ficcy goodness. Last year was amazingly fun to write for, and generated some absolutely amazing stories as well. If it sounds like something you're interested in, mosey on over to this post for more information (and sign up!)

And because I'm a giant copy cat, snurched from [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire2808's journal:

Take the free personality test!

Hrm, it's... close. But I don't think I'm anti-social to the extremes the test seems to think. Ah, well!

In other news... For the past... I think maybe two months, I've really wanted to talk about writing. Or something of the sort. Like talk about characterization (re: vent about John Sheppard... again), talk about my absolute crazy ideas that I want to try (ie: "write a story completely in the future tense... and possibly in second person"), and things of that nature. But, uh, I honestly have no idea if anyone but myself would find that sort of thing interesting. It would probably involve a lot of navel-gazing, and I'm pretty much convinced that no matter how hard I try, I'll come off sounding pretentious at least once in the course of things. I think I'll probably have to put it on a filter, just in case I wind up talking about any of the original stuff brewing up in my head, and also to provide a safe arena for discussion if it happens to be a more sensitive subject.

And yes, I know I sound like a horrible copy-cat... but would anyone be interested in that sort of thing?

ETA: Oooops, all links should be fixed now.

If you make a writing filter, I'd love to be on it. I love that kind of thing. :D

(I have one, also -- it's opt-in only, and I can't remember off the top of my head if you're one of the people who asked to be added, but I can certainly put you on it if you're not.)

(ETA: Thank you for the ficathon pimping! :D)

Sweet! I've added you as well! :D

Your posts recently (and that Stephen King book), have gotten me thinking about it in a very meta, critical manner. It's such an internal process, but I would love to be able to actually discuss some aspects of it in greater detail without feeling too self-conscious.

(And I do believe I'm on your writing filter... I think one of your recent posts got me thinking about world building.)

Thank you for the ficathon pimping! :D

You're welcome! I just hope we can have as good a turnout this year as we did last year (or even better, mwaha!) I think I might make another pimp post closer to the end of the week, just in case people are like me and they forget once they close their browsers that sign-ups are going on.

I *thought* you were on it, but I wasn't quite sure...

I just hope we can have as good a turnout this year as we did last year (or even better, mwaha!)

Last year really blew me away! I think 54 people signed up... of course, about a dozen of those were unable to finish their stories. XD So far, I think there's about 30 or 33 people signed up, something like that. Not bad, and still the rest of the week to go.

I was rather curious what the numbers were at right now, but didn't want to jinx things by asking ;)
