greyias: (we're screwed)

I'm a lemming wolf, it seems

"Cmon... everybody's doing it!"

That apparently is all the encouragement I need to sign myself up for [community profile] sgabigbang . I'd blame it on [personal profile] kristen999  because it was through her that I found out they were including gen this year. Or [profile] muzzle_  for going "You can do it! You're so awesome!" (Damn you, Muzz, you know I can't resist a good ego stroking). Or [profile] jadesfire2808 going "Join meeeeee!"...

But honestly... I'm just a masochist, and I thought another epic WIP is just what I needed.

Because obviously having figured out what to do with my genficathon prompt (thank you sleepy subconscious) is a sign that I need more to do in life. (And keep me from exploding with anticipation before S5's premiere).

40,000 word minimum?! *stares in awe*

Wow! My longest fic was about 21,777 words - and that was hard work! I'm normally well under that... *stares in awe again* I'm constantly in awe of people who can write longer fics.

So, not signing up, 'cos it nearly killed me to get a 2,000 word minimum ficathon story done in time...and it only just scraped over the minimum!!!

I've finished... one fic over 40,000 words which was not SGA (but written in like five weeks! WTF?), and only one other story that broke 30,000 that was SGA, but that took 2+ years to write.

After a few Nanowrimo's where your minimum is 50,000 and you only have one month, this looks like a cakewalk in comparison ;) Then again, I'm still on page 87 of that first Wrimo...

And those ficathon prompts are tricky, aren't they? So deceptively simple at first glance...

Actually I wind up writing longer than I think, because while I have planned plot points to hit, I usually get lost in the moment of the scene, usually in dialogue. (Me? Like writing dialogue? Noooo...)

Hee, LOVE the icon!! LOL!

There are times when the story just ends and I think, oh wow, that's short, and there are times when I estimate its length and then it gets bigger and bigger...!! Scenes do have a tendency to grow sometimes...and yeah, dialogue is often to blame!

The one I'm sort of writing (on and off) at the moment was meant to be a one shot, maybe 5,000 at most. Hmm, over 6,000 and I've still got some longish scenes to complete...and even then I'm thinking I should add more (or else people will be clamouring for a sequel... Needs more plot...me thinks it's going to be a 10,000 one at this rate!).

I might get it finished later this year (fingers crossed). It doesn't help that other WIPs keep wanting attention - and I tend to write whatever grabs me at the moment!

Icon lurve!

I often tend to underestimate the length of a story, although it's happened once or twice where it's come up shorter than I had envisioned.

Pfft, and don't you just hate it when people cry for a sequel? Yeah... me neither.

I might get it finished later this year (fingers crossed). It doesn't help that other WIPs keep wanting attention - and I tend to write whatever grabs me at the moment!

Yeah, that tends to be my method too. Whatever WIP is shiniest at the moment gets my attention. I think "Outcast" just finally pushed my interest in the brother AU to the point where I could finally finish it. That one had been languishing for... a while.

Hee! We'll have our own little Gen clique, where we lean against the wall and look cool as we smoke our cigarettes and make obscure literary references.

...and are we already to the season finale?
