My Father, the American Idol
Today I woke up early and managed to actually make myself write before the first cup of coffee, which is a feat in and of itself. Sadly, now that I've had my first cup I'm not sure if I'll keep any of it. (Why does it seem that I've written every scene before, just with different variations? Is this normal?) I also realized I don't have any clear defined idea of what the "middle" of this thing consists of. (I know the end... and some interim scenes, just not, y'know, the things to drive it there.) Uh, oops. Plot fairy?
Just finished another backlogged project at work today. It feels really strange to get stuff done. Also, it's really strange for people to come to me to ask various IT/AV/computer-related questions and expect me to be able to fix it. Even stranger, I seem to be having those answers. I have no idea what's going on, but I shall be very still and hope it continues.
ALSO! Today's snicker-worthy anecdote (other than my adventures in OS installation):
My father discovered Facebook... a few weeks ago, I don't remember the exact date. He's always a little slow on the social fads, but whatever, it's kinda funny/cute. He is convinced that Facebook is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
...and then he started getting friend requests.
No, no, not the strange one or two friend requests from the people in odd parts of the world who are not part of any of your social networks -- he started getting a lot of requests, from a lot of random people. Primarily from women. (And gay men XDDD) And he asked me if this was normal -- and seeing as I had my buried in trying to figure out how to figure out how to make a bootable USB stick -- I had no real answer for him than a "huhn".
Then my grandfather calls to congratulate my dad on his performance that night on televison. I believed my father's reaction was, "...?" At that point, we learned that Dad shares the name with one of the contestants this year on American Idol. And apparently they share some passing resemblance, so either people are just that blind on Facebook to not notice the thirty year difference, or they're friending him because they think he's this guy's father. Much raucous laughter ensues, spam-worthy amounts of friend requests, as well as my father scheming of ways to profit off of this. (If he were a Sim in Sims2, he would so be of the Money Aspiration.)
ETA: Ahhh, it turns out that said Idol was eliminated either last week or this week. *sniff* My dad's fifteen minutes of fame by proxy... gone so quick.
Travel plans are still up in the air. Hopefully I shall know one way or another next week. *crosses fingers*
