(And wow, I'm not sure I could sleep through natural disaster... just maybe a war or two)

We actually just recently got a German shepherd, but she's still very much a puppy, so we have to keep her locked up at night, and consequently my dog gets to keep her company rather than sleeping with me. Hasn't really bothered me that much until I remember how much I rely on her to be my bio-alarm clock.

But yes, send the big guy! XD
